Trump withdrew from the planned summit with Kim Jong Un last Thursday, citing hostile North Korean comments, but has since said the meeting in Singapore could still happen as originally scheduled on June 12.
Trump's back-and-forth over his summit plans with Kim has exposed the fragility of Seoul as an intermediary.
He is officially the vice chairman of the Central Committee of the North Korea's ruling Workers' Party, but is better known for his previous roles as the head of North Korea's intelligence service and as a seasoned negotiator who led breakthrough dialogues with South Korea in the early 1990s.
