This will ensure that Share, Like buttons and comment widgets on web pages can not be used to track a user without their permission.

The upcoming versions of the software powering iPhone and Mac computers will block the use of so-called "cookies" from Facebook "like" buttons that can follow people from one website to another, Apple said. Craig Federighi, senior VP of software engineering at Apple, told a standing-room pack with almost 6,000 software developers at the Worldwide Developers Conference of Apple in Silicon Valley, stated that as the "like" buttons and the "comment" fields on Facebook can be utilized to track the subscriber, so this year Apple is shutting those down.

Apple, kicking off its annual developer's conference, appeared to be setting itself apart from Facebook, which has drawn the ire of privacy activists, and even showed how its software could prevent the social network from tracking users on Apple devices. When people visit sites, the characteristics of their device can be used by advertisers to create a "fingerprint" to track them.

"We know, this is something that can help families achieve the right balance for them", Federighi said. Last year, the company launched an Intelligent Tracking system that makes it more hard for advertisers to follow users around the web. At the same time, European regulators have called for stricter privacy controls for users, called the GDPR, which went into effect in May.

Apple's software-focused event on Monday was a momentous moment - for Facebook Inc.

The controls include restrictions on specific apps or the whole phone. Screen Time would also allow parents to limit access to some apps and websites. Less than 24 hours before Apple's conference, the New York Times reported that Facebook's data-sharing partnerships with device makers, including Apple, were still in effect despite Facebook's claim that they'd cut off such data sharing in 2015.

"The App Store has fundamentally changed the way we live".

While the feature will make launching apps and using the keyboard faster on newer phones, it's also an indicator that Apple is catering to older phones as more people are hanging onto their devices for longer.

According to a report by The Indian Express, Apple CEO said: "The things mentioned in the Times article about relationship statuses and all these kinds of stuff, this is so foreign to us, and not data that we have ever received at all or requested", he said. They have Apple Pay.
