- Mass rallies are being held across the country Saturday as protesters call for an end to President Donald Trump's "zero-tolerance" immigration policy that has left children separated from their parents at the border.

The Trump Administration launched the so-called "zero tolerance" policy in April, which considers illegal border crossing as a criminal offence, meaning that immigrant minors will be separated from their families, reports Efe news.

Faced with a barrage of criticism both at home and overseas, Mr Trump last week signed an executive order to halt the family separation practice, but made no specific provisions for those already split apart. "While there are no plans to reunite the children who have already been taken from their families, we stand together to say families belong together".

More than 16,000 had RSVP-ed on Facebook for the "Families Belong Together" march, and Daley Plaza began filling up by 10 a.m.

She and others are undaunted after almost 600 women wearing white and railing against the now-abandoned separation policy were arrested Thursday in Washington, D.C. With demonstrations emerging nationwide, immigrant advocacy groups say they're thrilled - and surprised - to see the issue gaining traction among those not tied to immigration.

Since that policy was implemented in May, families have been routinely separated after apprehension.

The New York Times wrote on Friday that the protests are a galvanizing moment for those who want to see an end the to the "odious" practice of separating children from their parents.

Senegal vs. Colombia - Football Match Report
Poland can't progress to the last-16 with the no 1 seed in the group having lost their first two games of the competition. Colombia's football association has said the players who faced Poland focused on "regenerative" work on Monday.

About 2,000 children remained split from their parents, according to official figures released last weekend. The local demonstration comes just days after dozens were arrested when protesting a visit from Attorney General Jeff Sessions in Southern California.

Video of the protest showed mostly women sitting and chanting at the Hart Building.

Faced with a backlash, President Trump instead promised to "keep families together" in migrant detention centres. A 13-year-old girl stepped up to the mic to speak about her detention center experience when she came to the US with her family.

"I met with all 174 of the women that were there and it was absolutely heartbreaking to hear their stories, to hear about how their children had been taken away".

Galland said she and US Rep. Pramila Jayapal put out a call for protests less than two weeks ago, and they've been "overwhelmed" by the response.

The women, many of whom live outside the Washington area, said they planned to join in both protests while in town.

"Immigrants are coming here to survive", said Fuensalida. "There's nothing like a wounded animal", she said. Still other protesters wore jackets that said, "I really care".
