Mrs Trump, 48, has also pulled the pin on accompanying the President for arguably his most important trip yet, his historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Singapore on June 12.

US First Lady Melania Trump, who had not been seen publicly for the past 24 days, attended an official White House event with her husband President Donald Trump.

Still, plenty of evidence that Melania Trump is alive and, most importantly, well and not on some far flung island counting hundred dollar bills and hanging out with Elvis and Tupac. He showed her to a front-row seat across the aisle from Vice President Mike Pence before heading to the microphone.

"We've been going over her initiatives and other long-term planning for events such as the congressional picnic and 4th of July", Grisham said.

While the simplest reason for Melania's prolonged absence from the spotlight is her recent operation, the internet has been ablaze with more outlandish rationales.

A CNBC journalist wrote on Twitter last week: "Not that this will deter the conspiracy theorists, but I saw the First Lady walking with her aides in the West Wing yesterday afternoon".

The president literally pointed at a window, indicating the presence of the first lady, but ... she wasn't there.

But Mrs. Trump was expected to remain hospitalized for several days after the procedure was done at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, her office said.

He went on for a minute or so, saying the media was speculating where she has been.

"She will not attend the G7 and there are no plans for her to travel to Singapore at this time", Stephanie Grisham told AFP. "Thank you to the Gold Star families that joined us in celebration & remembrance".

"She's confident in what she is doing and in her role, and knows the rest is just speculation and nonsense", the statement added.

The first lady has not participated in a public event since returning from the hospital in mid-May.
