GitHub has been Acquired by Microsoft | Developers Revolt

San Francisco-based GitHub launched in 2008 as a way for software developers to upload, share and use code in a variety of languages for their projects. Microsoft is the top contributor to the site, and has more than 1,000 employees actively pushing code to repositories on GitHub.
MicrosoftsaidGitHub will continue to operate independently and "provide an open platform for all developers in all industries".
Satya Nadella, Microsoft CEO, said that the acquisition is in line with the tech giant's ethos of being a developer-first company and that it signifies Microsoft's "commitment" to strengthening this ethos.
Github, on the other hand, claims to now support a community of more than 27 million people who share and work together to build software. Their VS Code project alone is beloved by millions of developers, entirely open source, and built using GitHub's Electron platform.
"Most importantly, we recognize the responsibility we take on with this agreement", said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, according to The Verge.
If confirmed, the acquisition will concern many developers anxious about what Microsoft will do to GitHub as a service.

It also helps Microsoft, which is increasingly relying on open-source software, to add programming tools and tie up with a company that has become a key part of the way Microsoft writes its own software.
As Bloomberg reports, Microsoft is believed to have acquired GitHub.
GitHub's current chief executive, Chris Wanstrath, will move to Microsoft as a technical fellow to work on strategic software initiatives.
