Prince William's plane from Jordan landed at Ben Gurion Airport between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem around 18:00 (15:00 GMT), with the royal descending on to the tarmac in a dark suit.

The duke will be joined by Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis during his visit, when he will leave his floral tribute in Yad Vashem's Hall of Remembrance.

After the tour, the prince was greeted by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, at their official residence in Jerusalem against the backdrop of the British and the Israeli flags. "We know some of the politics are hard, but this is not a political visit".

Mr Rivlin said: "I know you are going to meet President Abbas".

He started off the day with a visit to Yad Vashem, where he met with two survivors who escaped Nazi Germany for the safety of Britain.

Prince William visited Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Centre, after arriving in Israel on the first official trip there by a United Kingdom royal.

"Having a relaxing evening with His Royal Highness Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, after his first day in #OurJordan", Hussein wrote in a caption that accompanied one of two pictures of the pair.

It might be off by as much as a few hundred yards, which can make a substantial difference if you're waiting for life-saving care. When multiple people are on a call, their video windows will get larger when they're speaking and shrink when they're not.

While in Jerusalem, William will also visit the grave of his great grandmother, Princess Alice, who was honored as among the "Righteous among the Nations" by Yad Vashem in 1993 for sheltering Jews in Greece from the Nazis during World War II.

He also spoke with two men who survived the Nazi genocide through British intervention.

Britain captured Palestine from the Ottoman empire in 1917 during World War One and administered the territory under global mandate until 1948, pulling out a day before Israel declared independence.

Before he embarked on the next leg of his journey, which includes Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, William couldn't pass up the opportunity to recreate a photo his wife took in that very spot over 30 years ago, when she and her family lived Jordan for three years.

The trip is at the behest of the British government. While here, the future king was scheduled to make high-profile stops at major sites across the country, including Yad Vashem, Jerusalem's Old City and the Western Wall, as well as meetings with Israeli and Palestinian leaders.

"In a sense, in challenging times it's all the more important that friends of the region show their interest, show their engagement for the long term, and I think that's exactly what Prince William will be able to do", Britain's consul general in Jerusalem, Philip Hall, told Reuters.
