  • Donald Trump calls for end to Russian expulsion from G7 grouping

White House trade adviser Peter Navarro went a step further, suggesting to Fox News Sunday morning that there's a "special place in hell" for the Canadian prime minister. He called Trump's refusal to sign the communique a display of "incoherence and inconsistency".

"We protect Europe (which is good) at great financial loss, and then get unfairly clobbered on Trade", he said. That was Justin Trudeau's late father, who served several terms as Canada's prime minister, starting in the late 1960s.

Trudeau pulled a "sophomoric political stunt for domestic consumption" that amounted to "a betrayal", said Kudlow, who appeared on CNN's "State of the Union" and CBS' "Face the Nation".

The top trading partners of the United States are upset over recent imposition of a 25 per cent tariff on import of steel and 15 per cent on aluminum.

Trump pulled out of endorsing a joint communique after the G7 meet finished on Saturday with the U.S. president accusing Trudeau, the summit's chairman, of dishonesty.

Trump arrived in Singapore on Sunday for the summit that could lay the groundwork for ending a nuclear stand-off between the old foes.

"The world as we know it, namely the USA -led rules-based multilateralism, is now in serious danger of unraveling, as illustrated at the G7 meeting", said Erik Nielsen, chief economist at Unicredit Bank.

Trump's comments are likely to cause consternation, especially among European allies furious at Russia's support of separatists in eastern Ukraine, assassination plots against Russian dissidents on European soil and meddling in Western elections, including Trump's election in the United States.

Russian Federation was expelled following Vladimir Putin's annexation of Crimea in 2014, which Mr Trump characterised as "something happened a while ago".

Republican Sen. Jeff Flake, a frequent critic of the president on foreign policy, also tweeted, "No, Russia should not be added to the G-7".

Mr. Trump's tweets taking aim at the leader of a country that has always been a U.S. ally came after the President left the G7 summit in Canada to travel to Singapore ahead of a planned diplomatic meeting with North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un, CNN reported.

Friday's talks came after Trump indicated he might cut short his time at the summit, and leave before it ends Saturday.

The US has said that the best way to solve trade disputes was by lowering tariff and non-tariff barriers by countries and allowing the free market to operate. "That there are no grounds whatsoever for bringing Russian Federation with its current behaviour back into the G7", said Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland. He will fly to Singapore to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, which he described as a "mission of peace".

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Deputy Assistant for International Economic Affairs Everett Eissenstat would stand in for Trump later Saturday if he leaves.

Trump made the comment at the White House Friday after hours of further escalating his rhetoric against longtime allies over USA trade practices.
