  • New Jersey cops tackle mother Emily Weinman for drinking

A Philadelphia woman seen on video being punched in the head by a police officer on a New Jersey beach says she didn't spit at the officers before the altercation.

The police video of the confrontation on Wildwood's beach over Memorial Day weekend also shows the woman calling officers "dirtball" and "trash".

Weinman was charged with Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer (two counts), Aggravated Assault by Spitting Bodily Fluids at/on a Police Officer, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest, Obstruction and Minor in Possession of Alcohol, according to police. An earlier, citizen-shot video showed an officer punching the woman's head.

The attorney for the 20-year-old Philadelphia woman who was accused of underage drinking and arrested on a Wildwood beach is speaking out. The officers have been reassigned to administrative duty. The department says the delay in releasing the body camera footage was the result of the time it took to hide the identities of juveniles and other citizens in the video.

Wildwood's mayor says the incident was not a reflection of the Jersey Shore town.

"You're not allowed to beat me like that", she cries, then spits in the direction of the arresting officer.

Body camera footage shows her blowing into the breathalyzer.

"OK, that's it ― I'm done with you", one police officer can be heard saying in the video before asking his partner for handcuffs. The two wrestle on the ground, as she repeatedly shouts "get the fuck off me" and "I didn't do anything". The officer can be seen striking Weinman in the head, and she is handcuffed and walked to a police vehicle. You can't lock me up. "At that point, the police officer did what he had to do", he said.

At the end of the video released by Wildwood police, the officer tells a supervisor the woman had Twisted Teas and had refused to give her name.

"Alright, that's it. I'm done with you", the officer responds. She tried kicking at us, so I slammed her on the ground.

Weinman also appears to spit at an officer as she is being led away toward a police auto.

"I'm not choking her", the officer says.

"The number of people who think she got what she deserved is appalling", Dicht said. She places her hands up, but it could be a defense reaction to an officer quickly closing in, he said. "I think we could have done a better job at trying to explain to her, but it didn't appear Ms. Weinman wanted to hear what we had to say".

A court date was set for June 6, though Dicht said it will probably be rescheduled for an unknown date. The Cape May County Prosecutor's Office's is now investigating the incident.
