  • Perseid meteor shower 2018

While the Perseid meteor shower will be visible on Saturday night, the real show comes on Sunday, with peak shooting star activity happening the night of August 12 to 13. "The moon is very favorable for the Perseids this year, and that'll make the Perseids probably the best shower of 2018 for people who want to go out and view it".

The meteors will appear to come from the direction of the Perseus constellation in the north-eastern part of the sky, although they should be visible from any point. These apps can identify many constellations and planets in the sky, many of which may have otherwise gone unnoticed. Perseid meteors, caused by debris left behind by the Comet Swift-Tuttle, began streaking across the skies in late July and will peak on August 12.

They're bits of ice and dust, which can be as small as a grain of sand or as big as a pea. The Comet Swift-Tuttle is known as the single most unsafe object known to humanity.

It's kind of a mixed bag when it comes to taking in the annual Perseid Meteor Shower this month.

If you intend to watch the Perseid Meteor Shower this year, be sure to watch between midnight and dawn.

Tottenham's Mauricio Pochettino happy with squad despite no signings
Despite no new arrivals for the first season at their brand new stadium, Pochettino feels they can still go on to do great things this term.

You can also catch a preview of the main event on August 9, as David will stream the sky from his location overnight.

If you're one of those privileged few who don't live their lives surrounded by constant smog and smoke, the Perseid meteor shower is a lovely event that you won't want to miss.

The Perseid meteors are actually pieces of debris from Comet Swift-Tuttle, the largest object known to repeatedly pass by Earth. If it's a clear night, everyone should be able to see it, but this august is a different.

The global meteor network forecasted that the meteors can travel up to 60 kilometers per second and that the shower will originate from the Perseus constellation.

If you live in the glare of city lights, try watching the darkest portion of the sky from your backyard, a nearby park or school grounds. Perseids are our favorites, as it produces about 100 meteors per hour, a phenomenon called high zenithal hourly rate (ZHR). Okay, so maybe seeing a meteor shower isn't so easy after all. Though experts say this eclipse will not be as intense last summer's but if you're in the north, it's worth checking out.
