  • TENSE IN TEHRAN: The President Slams Iran With 'MOST BITING SANCTIONS EVER IMPOSED'

In several videos posted to social media over the past week, crowds of dissidents are heard chanting, "Death to the dictator" as the United States prepared to reinstate sanctions on the country following President Donald Trump's exit from the global nuclear deal in May.

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani - who insists that its nuclear programme is entirely peaceful - has accused Mr Trump of waging "psychological warfare", and ruled out face-to-face talks with him while the sanctions remain in place.

On Tuesday, the USA reinstated sanctions targeting the Iranian government's purchase of U.S. dollars, Iran's trade in gold and other precious metals, and its automotive sector.

North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho also met with Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif Tuesday in an effort to bolster longstanding relations between the countries.

The DPRK foreign minister in response reiterated the praise for the two countries' longstanding relationship and agreed with the Iranian President's calls for strengthening ties.

USA officials have said in recent weeks that they aim to pressure countries to stop buying oil from Iran in a bid to force Tehran to halt its nuclear and missile programs and involvement in regional conflicts in Syria and Iraq. Even stronger sanctions targeting Iran's oil sector and central bank are to be re-imposed in early November.

Trump responded by noting that Iran could face serious consequences if it threatened the United States.

Rouhani hinted last month that Iran could block the Strait of Hormuz, a major oil shipping route, if the US attempted to stop the Islamic Republic's oil exports.

Trump Boasts About "Most Biting" Sanctions On Iran
Iran's currency has lost around half its value since Trump announced the U.S. would withdraw from the nuclear pact. Iran took a series of measures to try to limit the effect of U.S. sanctions on their economy over the weekend.

"They can not think that Iran won't export oil and others will export.".

Already facing broad economic fallout as their currency implodes, Iranians are wondering how the next phase of the crisis in USA relations will play out - and what, exactly, America's long-term strategy is toward their country.

'We are pleased to see German businesses stopping their trade with Iran, complying with USA sanctions, and helping pressure the Iranian regime back to the table, ' he tweeted. Zarif told the state-owned IRAN daily, however, there are now no ongoing talks between the countries.

When talking about Iran's right to the Strait of Hormuz, Rouhani had commented that Americans "should know that peace with Iran is the mother of all peace, and war with Iran is the mother of all wars".

In a speech hours before the sanctions were due to take effect on Tuesday, Rouhani rejected negotiations as long as Washington was no longer complying with the deal.

The U.S. on Monday re-imposed sanctions that had been lifted as part of the nuclear deal.

"If you stab someone with a knife and then you say you want talks, then the first thing you have to do is remove the knife", Rouhani said in a speech broadcast live on state television.
