Tottenham's Mauricio Pochettino happy with squad despite no signings

Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose and Mousa Dembele have all been linked with moves away from Tottenham this summer, and Pochettino has asked for their "commitment" for their new season, which begins against Newcastle United this weekend.

"With Brexit it is worse because the cost is 30 percent more - that is a drama, I feel sorry for the English people - and then keeping the best players, for me [that] is to be courageous".

"Building a new training ground, finishing this summer the lodge was a massive investment".

The Tottenham manager says he wants to make clear that all of his players are 'fit - but that being match fit to play without an increased risk of injury is another matter.

But three months on the north Londoners have finished the summer without bringing in a single player - a first in the Premier League since the transfer window was introduced 15 years ago.

"If we are happy with our squad and can not improve our squad, sometimes it's better to keep our squad together. Building a stadium that is almost £1bn".

"I think it's so hard now because it's only four hours until the end and I don't have news now", Pochettino told a news conference. "It's a courageous decision".

The trading relationship between the USA and China has moved from near zero to a deficit of $US375 billion over the past 20 years. A 25% tariff would boost the cost of a range of USA imports at a time when inflation has begun to pick up.

Tottenham were rather quiet in the summer transfer window but the Lilywhites managed to keep hold of key players such as Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen.

"It was a unusual transfer market because I think until England was out (of the World Cup) no-one was moving".

Despite no new arrivals for the first season at their brand new stadium, Pochettino feels they can still go on to do great things this term. Then with Brexit it's worse because the cost is 30 per cent more.

But he urged them to knuckle down if they remain for the season, saying: "If all the players today are thinking in a collective target, we can be competitive". They need to give their best.

However, what is obvious is that if Jack Grealish does gain almost a triple-your-money pay rise, he's got Spurs' hesitancy to say thank you to.

"I am the boss and if I expect you to do something then you need to provide it".
