  • President Trump reimposes sanctions to levy economic pressure on Iran

His statement comes as USA sanctions on the country are set to take effect Tuesday.

Trump said the new sanctions target the Islamic Republic's automotive sector, its trade in gold and other precious metals, along with its currency, the Iranian rial, and other financial transactions.

European companies will be protected from the impact of new sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran, Britain has said.

"It would be better if the Iranian regime would disappear entirely from this world, but it would also be a blessing to see Obama's bad nuclear agreement replaced with a better one", he said. European allies say they "deeply regret" the USA action. "If there is one piece of worldwide agreements on nuclear non-proliferation that is delivering, it has to be maintained", she said on Monday.

Asked about any possible exemptions to the renewed sanctions, officials said they would examine any requests on a case-by-case basis.

The impact of the return of sanctions has ramped up tension inside Iran, which has seen days of protests and strikes in multiple towns and cities over water shortages, high prices and wider anger at the political system.

"If there is sincerity, Iran has always welcomed dialogue and negotiations", Rouhani said, according to CNN.

Iran took a series of measures to try to limit the effect of U.S. sanctions on their economy over the weekend.

The official said the United States expects Iran will blame it for any new hardships, saying, "They've been doing it for nearly 40 years".

Other countries have also asked European Union officials for details on the blocking regulations, as they explore ways to bypass sanctions.

"Do you think this person (Trump) is a good and suitable person to negotiate with?"

Despite his claims, the accord "is working and delivering on its goal" of limiting Iran's nuclear programme, said a statement by European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini and the foreign ministers of France, Germany and the UK. "But talks need honesty".

But the European Commission has implemented a previously unused regulation that seeks to cancel the effect of the United States policy on European companies doing "legitimate business" with Iran.

Iran's currency has lost around half its value since Trump announced the U.S. would withdraw from the nuclear pact.

The European Commission said it will grant exceptions if the company can prove that it is leaving Iran for reasons not linked to the United States threat.

He said Washington was becoming isolated internationally and would come to regret imposing sanctions against the views of its allies and other world powers.
