  • Trump attacks report that he’s worried about son’s exposure to Mueller inquiry

"U.S. President Donald Trump gave his clearest admission yet on Sunday that the goal of the meeting between son Don Jr. and a Kremlin-connected lawyer before the 2016 presidential election was to get dirt on Hillary Clinton".

"It's nice that even on vacation the president finds time to incrimi-tweet his son - his 'wonderful son, ' I should say", the late-night host joked.

Mr. Trump made the comment in a tweet on Sunday morning that was meant to be a defense of the June 2016 meeting and the role his son Donald Trump Jr. played in hosting it.

On Sunday, US media including the Washington Post, CNN and AP reported that Mr Trump was anxious Donald Trump Jr could be in legal trouble because of the 9 June 2016 meeting with Ms Veselnitskaya.

On Sunday, the President offered his most direct acknowledgment to date that his son, along with campaign chairman Paul Manafort and son-in-law Jared Kushner, met with a Russian lawyer to get damaging information on Clinton.

Mr Trump Jr's testimony to Congress contained a similar defence as his father's Sunday tweet, indicating that he saw no reason not to accept a meeting that could yield important information about Mrs Clinton, even though he was told that it was part of an effort by the government of a hostile power.

The meeting took place in Trump tower in NY, and the president originally claimed it concerned the issue of global adoptions.

Zimbabwe election violence: ‘Desperate’ voters hold 'flicker of hope’ for Chamisa win
Mnangagwa had promised a free and fair vote after the military ushered him to power when Mugabe was forced to resign. The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission said it would start announcing results for the presidential race from 10.30 GMT.

President Trump himself seemed to shrug it off, saying in July 2017 that, "from a practical standpoint, most people would have taken that meeting". The surprising claim in Trump's tweet is that it is legal for a campaign to get information from a foreign entity about a political opponent.

The meeting, first reported by The New York Times, happened two weeks after Trump secured the Republican nomination.

All jokes aside, Giuliani was actually denying that he has been sweating bullets over Trump's tweets, despite recent reports that the president should be more concerned about the things he tweets.

KEITH: At the time campaign professionals from both sides of the aisle said, no, they would not have taken that meeting. "Your campaign accepted. And the Russians delivered", tweeted Rep. Adam Schiff, top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee.

Moreover, contrary to Trump's assertion, there are extremely strict federal laws prohibiting foreign nationals from getting materially involved in US elections.

The first is that Trump appears to have broken some new ground here when it comes to admitting the true objective of the Trump Tower meeting with a Kremlin-aligned lawyer - and even further contradicted the initial statement he helped draft about it. But Giuliani and other Trump lawyers have repeatedly warned him about the potential challenges of doing so and delayed a decision. Trump's lawyers - who are not in favor of any interview despite the President saying he wants to set the record straight with special counsel - are seeking to limit the interview to collusion topics. Dowd subsequently resigned from the Trump team. I say, as they come, Tax them. And at a trio of rallies, he escalated his already vitriolic rhetoric toward the media, savaging the press for unflattering coverage and, he feels, bias. "They can also cause War!"

"Emin just called and asked me to contact you with something very interesting", Goldstone wrote to Trump early June 2016.
