  • Twitter suspends Alex Jones for a week for inciting violence

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey explained in a tweet thread that Jones hadn't violated company rules at the time, but the company would act if he did so in the future.

But the catch is that Jones' ban will last just seven days-the InfoWars host will not be able to tweet or retweet from his personal account during that week. After a CNN report identifying numerous past tweets from Infowars and Jones that did violate Twitter's rules, those posts were deleted.

"You think Alex Jones is going to change his behavior based on a timeout?" askedHolt. The company has policies against harassment and hate speech, but does not ban accounts for posting false information.

A Twitter spokesperson said the action was taken for tweets containing a video that was in violation of the company's rules on abusive behaviour and inciting violence.

Other social media giants have permanently removed accounts linked to Mr Jones and Infowars which were deemed to have broken their... "The other thing is we don't apply our policies retroactively".

Trump doubles tariffs on Turkey, stoking jitters
The reaction from global currency markets caused the euro to slump to a 13-month low and pushed the dollar to a one-year high. But experts argue that the central bank should instead raise interest rates to ease inflation and to support the currency.

Since founding the far-right platform Infowars in 1999, Jones has promoted theories ranging from the government staging of the 9/11 attacks on NY and Washington to the left-wing faking of the Sandy Hook massacre where 26 children and adults were killed at the elementary school in CT. "But ultimately we want to take that reporting burden off the individual and automate a lot more of this".

Twitter didn't respond to requests for further comment or make Dorsey available for an interview.

"We identified this as an issue, it was a mistake, we fixed it within 24 hours", Dorsey said.

But the incident only intensified the growing criticism from conservatives that the site was targeting them over their beliefs and prompted Dorsey's outreach push. "But this is consistent with how we enforce".
