Ohio State University placed head football coach Urban Meyer on administrative leave on Monday as it launches an investigation into allegations that Meyer failed to act on domestic violence allegations against a team employee. We don't know how much Meyer knew about the alleged domestic abuse that was inflicted upon Courtney Smith by her now-ex-husband, Zach Smith, who was the Buckeyes' wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator prior to his July 23 firing.

Meyer said he was aware of an incident involving Zach and Courtney Smith in 2009, while they were still married.

The crux of what investigators will be looking for is whether Meyer followed proper protocols when and if he received information about allegations regarding Smith.

Ohio State officials said Thursday that reporters would be barred from football practices until at least next week, and university trustees announced that a six-member committee will head up the investigation. Meyer said the decision to fire Smith was a "very tough call".

At Big Ten media days last week, Meyer said he knew of the incident in 2009 and that he and Shelley Meyer addressed it with the Smiths.

There are, however, a sufficient number of facts that show Meyer is in real danger of losing his job, and the dismissals might not stop there.
