Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein to resign

  • Mr Rosenstein is overseeing the Mueller investigation after Jeff Sessions left recused himself from the investigation

A New York Times headline, meanwhile, migrated from "Rod Rosenstein, Deputy Attorney General, Is Expected to Leave Job" to "Rod Rosenstein, Deputy Attorney General, Is Considering Resigning" to "Rod Rosenstein Will Meet With Trump to Discuss His Fate".

Rosenstein - who oversees Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe into Russia's interference in the 2016 election - has denied that bombshell report in The New York Times on Friday.

When Jordan quoted a Fox News report alleging that Rosenstein had threatened to subpoena phone records from staff on the House Intelligence Committee, Rosenstein shot back tell him not to rely "on what the press said" and to inform him snarkily that there was "no way to subpoena phone calls".

"We have received conflicting reports this morning that President Trump was about to fire Mr. Rosenstiein, that Mr. Rosenstein resigned in anticipation of being fired, or that the White House falsely claimed that Mr. Rosenstein resigned when he had not".

Mr. Rosenstein's alleged comments were first reported Friday by The New York Times, citing sources familiar with the conversations or with Mr. McCabe's subsequent memos.

Trump appointed him after firing Sally Yates, who served as deputy attorney general under Democratic former President Barack Obama and as acting attorney general under Trump.

The departure of Mr Rosenstein - who named Mr Mueller to be special counsel in May 2017 - has enormous implications for the investigation and for the president. "There's a bureaucratic coup going on at the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and somebody needs to look at it".

The Death Row Records co-founder entered the plea in Los Angeles Superior Court and has agreed to serve 28 years in prison. At its peak, Death Row Records racked in hundreds of millions of dollars a year on the backs of artists like Dr.

Amid the latest fears of a high-level "bureaucratic coup", Mr. Trump is vowing to weed out the "lingering stench" of hostility toward him that he says exists inside the Justice Department.

Solicitor General Noel Francisco, the highest-ranking Senate-confirmed official below Rosenstein in the Justice Department, would be in line to take control of the Mueller investigation.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) are cautioning against firing Rosenstein for now. While Laura Ingraham initially urged Trump to fire Rosenstein, Sean Hannity pleaded with the president not to act. The White House initially cited that memo as justification for Comey's firing, though Trump himself has said he was thinking about "this Russian Federation thing" when he made his move. "I will not further comment on a story based on anonymous sources who are obviously biased against the department and are advancing their own personal agenda". Trump has repeatedly branded the investigation a "witch hunt" and complained that Rosenstein is "conflicted" because he is a witness in the investigation after writing a letter advocating the firing of former FBI Director James Comey over his handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation.

Where does all this leave Robert Mueller and the Russian Federation probe which Donald Trump has been railing against?

"It's a bill that I ultimately want to see passed for the future, but it's not something I'd put on the front-burner", Tillis told CNN.

"Because the President is at the United Nations General Assembly and has a full schedule with leaders from around the world, they will meet on Thursday when the President returns to Washington, D.C". "Don't put this country through a constitutional crisis".
