O’Rourke Ignores Attacks Ahead Of Texas Senate Race Debate

The race between Republican Senator Ted Cruz and Democratic Congressman Beto O'Rourke is close. There were almost 45,000 "O'Rourke" tweets as well, and all three terms became top trends in the U.S. The tweets may lean toward O'Rourke, but as the congressman said onstage at Southern Methodist University, 50 percent of rural Texans don't have reliable access to broadband internet.

National attention in the race has grown as O'Rourke has raised more money than Cruz.

Only 54 percent of Hispanic voters backed O'Rourke according to recent Quinnipiac University poll, while 45 percent supported Cruz, whose father is Cuban although he doesn't speak Spanish.

This comes just a day after another poll said that Cruz was up nine points over O'Rourke. "This is your trick and the trade". Cruz responded that "Texans' lives are better" because the Republicans won the presidency in 2016, and he didn't want to be a sore loser. Candidates were asked about what they admired about their opponent.

There have been innumerable attempts to show how Trump managed to take over the GOP, and why figures like Cruz, an avatar for the intellectual vanguard of the conservative movement's elite, adapted themselves to his takeover so easily.

O'Rourke has built his campaign around healthcare, economic inequality, and resisting Trump and Cruz's immigration policies, as well as calling for some gun-control measures including uniform background checks and banning high-capacity weapons.

When Cruz stopped speaking, O'Rourke wryly deadpanned: "True to form".

The topic of the debate was domestic policy. It will be moderated by NBC 5 political reporter Julie Fine and Dallas Morning News political writer Gromer Jeffers.

O'Rourke has denied the accusations, and an attorney who filed failed ethics complaints against him in 2006 called the ads misleading.

The Second Amendment fueled yet another showdown between the two as they differed on the need for gun control after the deadly shooting earlier this year at Santa High School. "We can make our schools safer by having officers protect them".

"Thoughts and prayers, Sen". Mentioning some lower-level judges Mr. O'Rourke said were unsavory yet earned Mr. Cruz's endorsement, Mr. O'Rourke contended Judge Kavanaugh's record with voting rights cases should give marginalized or minority populations in Texas pause.

"Black men, unarmed, black teenagers, unarmed, and black children, unarmed, are being killed at a frightening level right now, including by members of law enforcement without accountability and without justice", O'Rourke said.

"The driver attempted to leave the accident but was stopped by the [witness]", a police officer wrote, according to the police report. 'I will pray for anyone in harm's way'. O'Rourke, meanwhile, has been open about his 1998 arrest for drunken driving in El Paso, but said for the first time Friday that he did not try to flee the scene, as a witness suggested in the police report.

President Donald Trump will rally in Texas for Cruz next month, which was once unthinkable in the nation's largest red state. O'Rourke has publicly called for Guyger to be fired.

Another source of contention was kneeling for the national anthem. Texas Rangers and the Dallas County district attorney quickly charged Guyger with manslaughter. 'But I'll tell you something, I've been to too many police funerals'.

O'Rourke said racial profiling, discriminatory stop-and-frisk searches, racially motivated police shootings and discriminatory sentencing should be collectively considered as the "new Jim Crow".

There are millions of people in this country who are working the toughest jobs. The state "needs a senator who will work with the president where we can and stand up to him where we must", O'Rourke said.

But Senator Cruz still has an edge.

"Sorry you don't like thoughts and prayers", Mr. Cruz shot back, adding he would pray for anyone at any time.
