For its part, Samsung says it is investigating the matter but that no similar incidents have been reported.
In a lawsuit filed by real estate agent Diane Chung in the Queens Supreme Court, the Long Island woman described an incident she claims took place on September 3 while she was alone in the elevator of a building in Bayside, Queens. Samsung's initial response was to recall the devices and replace the battery packs. Following this, she chose to stop using the phone, and kept it in her purse. She put it in her bag and then heard a "whistling and screeching sound" coming from the bag, along with "thick smoke". When the elevator reached the lobby and the doors opened, she kicked the phone out.
Of course, the U.S. being the USA, a lawsuit has now resulted with the plaintiff suing Samsung for "unspecified damages and a restraining order barring the sales of any Galaxy Note 9s".
She put the bag on the floor and tried to empty it, burning her fingers in the process, the suit alleges.

It has taken great precautions in its battery testing, downgraded its batteries since a year ago, and implemented a new cooling system in the Galaxy Note 9. He said that the engineers at Samsung are confident of its safety, and that users do not have to worry about batteries any more. However, some devices that were marked safe also reported cases of fire. The Galaxy Note 9 has been launched in a number of markets around the world including India and has since received widespread praise.
