Judge Brett Kavanaugh, President Trump's Supreme Court nominee, is facing a new round of sexual misconduct allegations.

Trump told reporters Monday after signing a new trade agreement with South Korea at the United Nations General Assembly in NY that "we hope he is going to be confirmed".

The new allegations, published Sunday night in a New Yorker article co-bylined by Pulitzer Prize victor Ronan Farrow and Jane Mayer, are being made by Deborah Ramirez, who was a student at Yale University when Kavanaugh was a freshman.

Ford's account, days ago in The Washington Post, detailed Kavanaugh's sexual assault on her - including getting her drunk, ripping her clothes and forcing his hand over her mouth to prevent her from screaming - while both were at a teenagers' party during their years in exclusive D.C. area private high schools.

"The people who knew me then know that this did not happen, and have said so", the conservative judge said in a statement. The women making the allegations, Trump said, "were coming out of the woodwork and, he said, "in my opinion totally political".

Like Christine Blasey Ford, the professor accusing him of assaulting her when they were teenagers, Ramirez wants the FBI to investigate the incident, and Democratic lawmakers are backing their demands.

"I never had any sexual or physical activity with Dr Ford", Kavanaugh said, adding, "What I know is the truth".

Republicans mounted a combative, coordinated drive Monday to salvage Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination as they fought to keep a second woman's allegation of long-ago sexual misconduct from derailing his confirmation.

Ramirez, who told The New Yorker that she'd been drinking at the time, was initially reluctant to speak publicly "partly because her memories contained gaps", the magazine said.

The Senate Judiciary Committee's top Democrat, Sen.

"This is a woman I was best friends with", the friend said. "He was a roommate to some of us, and we spent a great deal of time with him, including in the dorm where this incident allegedly took place", they said. As I've noted, we know the chain of custody of the letter went through the Democratic side of the Judiciary Committee. This is a smear, plain and simple. The Times further reported that the individual in the story had contacted former classmates herself in an effort to corroborate the story and had "told some of them that she could not be certain Mr. Kavanaugh was the one who exposed himself".

Kavanaugh is angrily denying either incident ever happened. "And all I am asking for is fairness and that I'd be heard in this process", Kavanaugh told Fox News in a rare interview Monday night.

In a story Sunday, The New Yorker says Deborah Ramirez recalled Kavanaugh exposing himself at a drunken dormitory party. "I never heard of it happening". Chuck Grassley (R., Iowa), nevertheless responded properly-in contrast to Democratic senators-to the allegations when they first arose. Taylor Foy, a Judiciary spokesman, complained that Democrats "actively withheld information" from the Republicans.

They said in the statement that Ramirez never described the incident until after Kavanaugh was nominated to the Supreme Court. He said the committee chairman, Sen. He said they appear "more interested in a political takedown" than a bipartisan process.

Kavanaugh's final line was, "I look forward to answering questions from the Senate on Thursday".

Kavanaugh told the Senate Judiciary Committee in a letter Monday that he "will not be intimidated" into withdrawing, calling the allegations against him a smear campaign.

The New Yorker has not confirmed this allegation with any other eyewitnesses.
