  • The Emirates plane was quarantined after landing at JFK airport on Wednesday morning

Rapper Vanilla Ice was one of 520 passengers aboard a plane traveling to New York's Kenneday Airport from Dubai that had to be quarantined upon arrival because about 100 passengers felt ill. Emirates flies twice daily between Dubai and New York-JFK, with both frequencies operated by the A380.

Shortly before 10:30 a.m., Emirates Airlines said only 10 passengers from Dubai had taken ill.

All other passengers will be disembarking shortly.

'The safety & care of our customers is our first priority, ' the airline wrote.

The CDC said 100 passengers and some crewmembers on the flight complained of feeling sick.

A NY police counterterrorism division tweeted it appeared to be a "medical situation".

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Port Authority Police are waiting at a staging area to check the passengers, NBC New York reported. Other passengers are still being evaluated, the source said. The symptoms were reportedly flu-like, including coughing and fevers reaching over 100 degrees.

Kavanaugh to face marathon questioning in battle for SCOTUS
More than a dozen protesters , shouting one by one, disrupted the hearing at several points and were removed by police. But the Democratic frustrations that boiled over on September 4 had been simmering for more than two years.

Officials said 10 people - three passengers and seven crew members - ended up hospitalized in what Emirates called a "precaution". Nine passengers underwent additional medical screening on site before being released, it added.

The plane was quarantined after it landed and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was at the scene, said New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio's press secretary, Eric Phillips.

"Symptoms still pointing to the flu", the mayor of New York City said.

Ms Sykes said that there had been no announcements about what was happening or when the remaining passengers would be allowed to exit the plane.

Passenger Larry Coben tweeted images of emergency vehicles surrounding the giant aircraft.

"The captain did make an announcement and said, 'We're not going to be able to deplane right away because there's been a couple people sick, ' but that was all the information we got", Sykes said. At 11:03 a.m. ET, he added: "Happy to report that I am through customs and on my way home".
