Tiger Woods has won his first title in five years, with a two shot victory at the Tour Championship in Atlanta on Sunday (local time).

Woods built a five-shot lead halfway through the final round at the Tour Championship in Atlanta on Sunday, moving closer to ending his five-year victory drought. Woods finished Sunday 11 under for the tournament, a two-stroke lead over second place.

He almost won the FedEx Cup, too, until Justin Rose survived a late meltdown with a birdie on the final hole to tie for fourth place and secure the overall FedEx Cup and its prize of $10m (£7.6m).

With his last victory coming way back in August 2013 at the Bridgestone Invitational, Woods' ability to return to professional golf at all - let alone win - was in major doubt previous year following spinal fusion surgery as he plummeted all the way down to 674th in the world rankings. And he's in good position - after a 5-under-par 65, he leads Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose by three shots.

Tiger Woods has gone from not knowing if he would ever play golf again to the verge of winning.

Rose birdied the 18th at East Lake for a 73 to seal the top-five finish he needed to win the $10m (£7.6m) bonus on offer as FexEx Cup champion.

Israel offered condolences over the death of the Russian troops but said it holds the Syrian government "fully responsible". U.S. secretary of state Mike Pompeo expressed "sorrow for the death of the aircrew members of the Russian plane".

Woods tapped in for par on the final hole to finish off the win.

As a result, Woods was afforded the opportunity of carrying out the final few holes of the round amid raucous support from fans who could scarcely believe their luck.

"Yeah, I got off to a nice start", Woods said after carding the best round of the day.

It's his 80th PGA Tour win overall, which moves him to within two of Sam Snead's all-time record of 82.
