  • Federer survives Simon scare to reach Swiss Indoors semi-finals

Copil will face Federer in Sunday's final after the No. 1 seed cruised to a straight-sets win over Daniil Medvedev in the second semifinal.

Earlier, second seed Alexander Zverev hammered a dozen aces to reach the final four with a 7-5, 6-3 defeat of Roberto Bautista Agut.

The two final places will be decided at the Paris Masters, where Federer will attempt to become the first man to reach a century of ATP tournament victories.

The 28-year-old Romanian turned in a gritty performance against world number five Zverev, serving and volleying and mixing up his shots from behind the baseline to prevent the German from finding any sort of rhythm. Copil stands 2-0 over potential opponent Medvedev but has never played Federer.

Roger was magnificent behind his first serve, winning 32 out of 34 points and saving three out of five break points, creating the same number of chances on the other side and converting three to wrap up the win in straight sets and made his crowd erupting in joy.

In the semifinals, Nishikori will meet Kazakhstani qualifier Mikhail Kukushkin, who battled back to survive Hungary's Marton Fucsovics 4-6, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (4) in a 3-hour, 17-minute marathon.

IND vs WI 2nd ODI: Kohli obliterates record in a thrilling tie
Shai Hope, who nearly earned the win for West Indies with an unbeaten 123, was crestfallen after failing to cross the line. Kohli, who will turn 30 next month, was dropped on 44 by West Indies captain Jason Holder off debutant seamer Obed McCoy.

"I knew this would be a tough match", Copil said.

"I'm always happy when I win, I'm happy I fought through like this", said Federer after the victory.

"I was trying to win one or two matches here just to stay there but now, being in the final, it's an unbelievable achievement for me".

ROGER Federer has revealed that organisers of the relaunched and condensed Davis Cup gave him three days to decide if he would commit to the controversial competition.

Copil began the match with a break in the third game but lost it in the sixth as Federer levelled the opening set.

This was Federer's 18th consecutive winning match at a tournament where he is unbeaten since 2013 and is an eight time victor.
