Trump denies Chinese, Russians are listening in on his phone calls

  • Chinese and Russian spies are listening in on President Donald Trump's phone calls according to a New York Times report

Trump has tweeted about the New York Times story again, claiming that he "rarely" uses a mobile phone.

In a tweet, Trump said the report was "soooo wrong!" and insisted "I only use Government Phones".

The White House has dismissed The New York Times report that US President Donald Trump has three cellphones, saying he has only one official government iPhone, the security of which follows industry best practices. They feared that Russian and Chinese intelligence may be tapping into the conversations. Citing current and former American officials, the newspaper reported that American intelligence reports indicate Chinese spies often listen to these calls.

The agencies were said to have learned of the eavesdropping from people inside foreign governments and through intercepting communications between foreign officials, the report said. "There were lots of people who were anxious about this. I like Hard Lines", he wrote. So news that Trump is literally just leaving his phone on the golf course is particularly ironic.

The Times reported that Trump's use of his iPhones to speak with friends allows Chinese and Russian to listen in on his calls to get an idea of what types of arguments are successful with the president, and who he trusts.

Those very same protocol flaws have been used in the past by USA intelligence agencies to spy on foreign officials, such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel, according to documents leaked by Edward Snowden -hence, the reason why White House security protocols view landlines as more secure systems.

Trump's cell phone use has been noted throughout his tenure, and security experts have raised concerns in the past.

The sources go on to say that the tapping problem has been verified by those in foreign governments, as well as through U.S. espionage. But China would like the United States president to know that if he's anxious about security, he can always switch to Huawei. Those calls are logged and can be reviewed by Trump's senior aides.
