Authorities have not yet found the body of a Khashoggi, who was a Washington Post columnist and prominent critic of the Saudi regime.

Crime scene units started their search inside a two-storey building in the Samanli village early in the morning, according to the state-run Anadolu Agency.

"The chief prosecutor's office believes that this phone call was about disappearing or hiding the body parts of the murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi", the prosecutor said in a statement.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a Turkish official familiar with the investigation told ABC News that investigators are searching for the remains of Khashoggi's body. The latest searches came more than two weeks after pro-government Sabah daily reported that samples taken from the consulate drains showed traces of acid.

Khashoggi's killing has strained Saudi Arabia's ties with the West and battered the image overseas of its de facto leader, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Their search was concentrated on a well in the garden of the villa in Termal district, Anadolu said.

In a televised speech on November 10, Erdogan said Saudi Arabia knew the killer of Khashoggi was among a group of 15 people who arrived in Turkey one day ahead of the October 2 murder. Police, aided by sniffer dogs, continue an investigation into the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, officials and news reports said.

Turkey has maintained pressure on Saudi Arabia over killing of the US -based columnist for The Washington Post. They include the 15-man hit squad, the Saudi consul general in Istanbul and a former adviser to the crown prince.

Local media reported last month that investigators had widened their search to Yalova and a forest on the outskirts of Istanbul for the remains of the journalist.

Selvi wrote: "It is said that the Crown Prince gave an instruction to silence Jamal Khashoggi as soon as possible and this instruction was captured during the Central Intelligence Agency wiretapping".

Khashoggi was killed in a rogue operation and Saudi Arabia has since arrested several suspects in the case.
