  • Chris Dawson has faced court via AVL charged with the murder of his wife Lynette Dawson in 1982

Chris Dawson, subject of The Teacher's Pet podcast, was arrested by Queensland police officers on the Gold Coast on Wednesday morning, at the request of NSW Police.

The 70-year-old was arrested by detectives on Wednesday morning at his Queensland home.

First The Teacher's Pet podcast went viral in Australia and across the globen.

"Statements from witnesses helped us tie pieces of the puzzle together".

A spokesman for Chris Dawson's family said they are "disappointed" in yesterday's explosive developments, and claimed there was "clear and uncontested" evidence Lyn was alive long after she disappeared.

He was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court on Thursday afternoon.

"A team of dedicated detectives has been investigating this case over the past three years", Det.

Dawson has always maintained his innocence, and claimed his wife had run away to live with a religious cult in remote area of NSW.

Two separate inquests previously recommended to the NSW Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) that a "known person", now identified as Chris Dawson, be charged with her murder, but the DPP determined insufficient evidence to lay charges.

"Without a body, without knowing first of all whether in fact she is dead, without knowing secondly if she is dead, how she died, it's very hard to mount a case of a reasonable prospect of conviction just on motive and the undefined existence of means and opportunity".

Mr Dawson will face a NSW court later this week.

"We've been waiting for 36 years for something like this to happen", Ms Dawson's niece Renee Simms told Ten Network on Wednesday.

In 2015, NSW homicide detectives established Strike Force Scriven to reinvestigate the circumstances surrounding Mrs Dawson's disappearance and suspected murder. "It is my understanding that there were two additional statements were the byproduct of the media and the work that the media has done, but essentially the case rests on the work of Dan Pool and the Unsolved Homicide Squad".

"We would like to have found the body of Lynette Dawson, not just for the evidence but for the family, and we certainly will not give up on the search", he said.

Police, who have conducted several digs at the Dawson's Bayview home in Sydney to find Lynette's body, said they have amassed "an enormous amount of evidence".

"We have to also ensure Chris gets due process".

"There was additional evidence that was identified and that has seen the DPP make a positive decision in prosecuting an individual for the murder of Lynette Dawson", Mr Fuller said.
