Democratic Senator Warren takes step toward 2020 US presidential bid

  • Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren speaks to reporters outside her home in Cambridge Mass. on Dec. 31 after announcing plans to explore a campaign for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination

"That's what I'm fighting for, and that's why I'm launching an exploratory committee for president".

"Every person in America should be able to work hard, play by the same set of rules and take care of themselves and the people they love", she wrote on Twitter.

Warren insisted the middle class is "under attack" from corporations and the right, including President Trump, who she vowed can be defeated in 2020.

In a video announcing the formation of the committee, Warren focused on her own life in America, and how her mother and father struggled and worked hard to give her opporunities that were unavailable to them.

The progressive star made the announcement via a four-and-half minute video in which she said, "Corruption is poisoning our democracy".

She had been mocked as "Pocahontas" by Donald Trump due to her claims of Native American ancestry at an event celebrating Native American war veterans.

Swearinger over the weekend and now Kansas City Chiefs fans are hoping their team can land them the flawless Christmas gift. He would quickly understand that and if he has an issue, that's where that accountability comes in, players and coaches".

Warren, a liberal firebrand from Massachussetts who has often clashed with Trump, also released a video that leaned on the populist, anti-Wall Street themes that are sure to be central to her campaign message.

Green, whose group has supported Warren for years while talking up "the Warren wing" of the Democratic party, also gave a hint of how his group and potentially others might seek to distinguish the MA senator from other leading contenders. President Barack Obama considered appointing her to run the new bureau but then passed on her. Warren ran for the Senate instead.

The results released by Warren revealed "strong evidence" that Warren had a Native American ancestor dating back six to 10 generations.

The 69-year-old, who has represented MA in the Senate since 2013, is a progressive Democrat. But it allowed Warren at least some time to dominate the race, since two lesser-known politicians, Rep. John Delaney of Maryland and former San Antonio mayor Julián Castro, are the only candidates to officially declare their interest so far.

The Cherokee Nation responded to the results at the time by arguing that "a DNA test is useless to determine tribal citizenship". The only potential candidates with better numbers were Biden and Sanders, but unlike them, Warren has never before sought the presidency. Warren also has a jaundiced view of American power; in a foreign policy speech at American University in November, she opined, "Whether our leaders recognize it or not, after years as the world's lone superpower, the United States is entering a new period of competition".
