  • A map of the area where police are searching for Grace Millane

This comes as police said they had identified a "location of interest" which they were searching today.

The body was located in a bushy area about 10 metres from a road in Waitakere Ranges, on the western outskirts of Auckland.

A missing-person search took a tragic turn on Saturday when investigators announced they believed the 22-year-old, who was last seen alive on 1 December, had been murdered.

A 26-year-old man now being held by police is to be charged with killing Miss Millane, 22, from Essex.

Detective Inspector Scott Beard said the body was in bush about 10m off the side of the road.

"The formal identification process will now take place, however based on the evidence we have gathered over the past few days we expect that this is Grace", he said at a press conference near the scene.

He said he could not confirm whether Miss Millane's body was at the site.

Millane, from Essex, was on a year-long round-the-world trip after graduating from university.

A 26-year-old man is due to be charged with murder and will appear at Auckland District Court on Monday.

"The focus now is to piece together exactly what happened to a young girl who came to New Zealand on her OE", he said.

Her father David has described her as a "lovely, outgoing, fun-loving, family-orientated daughter" who had been in regular contact before she disappeared.

Speaking from the scene, he said it was an unbearable time for her family and his heart goes out to them.

Grace Millane, 22, was last seen at the Auckland city center around 7 pm December 1.

On Saturday police released images of a pink watch and a necklace belonging to her and asked for the public's help in finding them.

After visiting Peru, she arrived alone in New Zealand last month and had been in touch with family and friends almost daily until her disappearance.

She was last seen on the evening of Saturday 1 December.

Her family was surprised and anxious when she didn't contact them on her birthday or get in touch over on the days that followed.
