"Unlike solar eclipses, lunar eclipses are safe to view without any eye protection or special precautions, as they are dimmer than the full Moon".

Serena Williams wins Australian Open return; Venus gets by
With every tournament, Bouchard is looking more like her old self on court and appears ready to make further strides this season. Not everything went the 37-year-old's way, but she demonstrated why she is considered the tournament favourite.

The occasion will also mark the year's first supermoon - which happens when a full moon is slightly closer to Earth and so appears bigger and brighter.

Let's unpack that. The "super" stems from the fact the moon is now a little closer to Earth than usual in its elliptical orbit. The moonlight will be dimmer, but it will still be fairly bright, Thanjavur said. As the moon moves into the darker shadow, significant darkening of the Moon will be noticeable.

'A little bit of sunlight is refracted by the Earth's atmosphere and reaches the Moon, bending around the edges of the Earth, ' explained Walter Freeman, an assistant teaching professor at Syracuse University's physics department.

"We have that lovely alignment of the three celestial objects and Earth's shadow is cast on the moon", he told CTV News Channel.

The final stages will begin shortly after that with the whole astronomical event wrapping up shortly before 1 a.m. Monday morning.

The weather here should be good. A telescope will be available for people to look through. "It's very attractive as it is. You get to see the moon close up".

If you go outside and bundle up, look up! "It'll be a very different experience".

According to BBC, the eclipse will begin at 2.35 am GMT in the United Kingdom and will last till 7.49 am GMT.
