  • Three people died when a bus hit a station platform in Ottawa Canada authorities said

In 2013, an Ottawa bus collided with a Via Rail train in suburban Barrhaven, killing six people. Police say they were taken to local hospitals. "Thank you to the first responders who rushed to help - we're monitoring the situation closely".

"Most of the serious injuries were on the upper-right side of the bus", Bordeleau said.

"An investigation is now underway on the cause of the collision", he told reporters.

23 people were injured, 14 had been placed in a life-threatening condition to the hospital, said a spokesman for the rescue workers.

He said the upper deck of the bus was badly damaged in the crash, trapping several people inside for some time.

He says they will also have to survey the wreckage using drones, go over video and data gathered from the bus and bystanders.

"Outstanding investigators are doing that work, but it takes time", Bordeleau said.

It's the second fatal OC Transpo double-decker bus accident the city has witnessed in five years.

"Based on the way it looked, if there was anybody at the front of the bus at the top".

Due to the investigation, OC Transpo said its Saturday routes serving Westboro and Dominion stations are on detour between Lincoln Fields and Tunney's Pasture stations.

"My first thoughts are with those who have been injured and their families".

"I want to send my deepest condolences to the families of victims and everyone affected by today's tragic bus crash", Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted. The investigation into that case found the cause was a combination of excessive speed, a hard curve before the tracks and driver distraction.
