The 50-year-old man was arrested on Saturday after he allegedly pulled out a knife and placed a metal object on an airport table, claiming it was a bomb, after an argument with a woman.

Services on the airport train line were also shut down.

Police will allege the exclusion zone in Surfers Paradise was a precaution related to the Brisbane Airport incident.

Meanwhile a woman said when she asked what was going on, she was told by an officer the Surfers Paradise situation "was connected to what was going on in Brisbane" and allegedly told her to "connect the dots", according to the Courier Mail.

At around 9pm yesterday police were called to the global terminal following reports of a man in the food court armed with a knife and threatening a woman known to him, according to a Queensland Police Service statement released today.

Addressing the media in Brisbane, Superintendent Tony Fleming confirmed earlier fears the man at the airport was carrying an explosive turned out to be false.

Soon after the man was taken by police, another emergency situation began unfolding on the Gold Coast which police said is related to the airport incident.

Assistant Commissioner Peter Crawford said the tactical decision made at the time was suitable to contain the alleged offender.

"There is no evidence to suggest the incident at the global airport is terrorism related; it is a domestic violence related situation", police tweeted.
