The missile, named Hoveizeh, was displayed in a ceremony attended by Defense Minister Amir Hatami.

But the statement said the European Council was "gravely concerned" by Iran's efforts to "increase the range and precision of its missiles, together with increasing the number of tests and operational launches".

The new "Hoveyzeh" cruise missile can reportedly travel up to 1,200 kilometres. According to Hatami, the missile would be fully ready for the use in the short term and would be able to fly at low altitude and its flight range reaches over 1,350 km.

In the 37-second video on the ministry website, the launch was shown from different angles with the projectile finally hitting somewhere in the desert.

The Iranian judiciary chief said on Monday that his country would never accept the "humiliating conditions" in the EU's payment channel for trade with Iran, Tasnim news agency reported. On the same day, the Netherlands accused Iran of two killings on its soil and joined France and Denmark in alleging Tehran plotted other attacks in Europe. Unlike many other news organizations, we have not put up a paywall.

While Washington has embarked on re-imposing sanctions on Iran, the latter has vehemently refused to renegotiate anything or bring the missile program into the nuclear deal in any fashion.

Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani told a gathering of judges in Tehran on Monday that the European Union was insisting on Iranian agreement with two key demands before implementing INSTEX, a special financial channel developed by France, the United Kingdom and Germany that would allow Iran to continue trading despite tough USA sanctions that went into action on November 1.

"If the Europeans, or anyone else, want to conspire to disarm Iran of missiles, we will be forced to make a strategic leap", the guards' deputy commander Brig-Gen Hossein Salami said on state TV. The Islamic Republic develops its missile technology according to a "defensive strategy" which changes according to need, he said.
