In a speech at Tehran's Azadi (Freedom) square, Rouhani said USA efforts to separate Iran from other countries would fail.

Rouhani also promised the crowds that Iran would overcome the economic hardship amid the country's spiraling economy and the newly imposed US sanctions.

In a speech at Tehran's Azadi square, President Hassan Rouhani dismissed USA efforts to isolate Iran, saying US sanctions could not break the Islamic Republic.

The hardliners, who believe in the strict implementation of laws from 40 years ago, continuously clash with the reformists, who are pushing for more economic transparency.

Pahlavi's comments came as Iran on February 11 celebrated the 40th anniversary of the establishment of an Islamic government in Iran.

The Trump administration has pushed hard to weaken Iran and what it says is Tehran's "destabilizing" influence.

The problem, for Khamenei, is that there is a public record of such virulent, hateful chanting going as far back as the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

A senior commander in Iran's Revolutionary Guards said Tehran would not withdraw forces from the region, dismissing US calls for Iranian clout to be curbed. Rather, they are directed at national leaders.

Iran also has vast clout in Iraq, where Major-General Qassem Soleimani, head of the overseas arm of the Revolutionary Guards, was frequently photographed guiding Shi'ite militias in the war against Sunni Islamic State militants. "We will help any Muslim anywhere in the world".

"We have not asked and will not ask for permission to develop different types of. missiles and will continue our path and our military power", President Hassan Rouhani said in a speech at Tehran's Azadi (Freedom) square.
