"FBI & DOJ to review the outrageous Jussie Smollett case in Chicago", Trump wrote on Twitter early Thursday morning (March 28).
The 36-year-old claimed that two Trump supporters attacked him, put a rope around his neck, poured a chemical on him, abused him with racist and homophobic slurs, and yelled "This is MAGA country!" in downtown Chicago in January.
Prosecutors dropped the charges on Tuesday, saying they stood by the accusation but that an agreement by Smollett to forfeit his US$10,000 bond was a just outcome.
While not mentioning Foxx by name, the National District Attorneys Association's statement on "best practices" said a prosecutor should not take "advice from politically connected friends of the accused", should not recuse herself without recusing the entire office and noted that "a case with the consequential effects of Mr. Smollett's should not be resolved without a finding of guilt or innocence".

Trump's comments on Smollett's case comes ahead of a 2020 re-election battle as he tries to capitalize on another issue to animate his base. One would also have to wonder if the creator of the popular show Empire wants any more drama in the form of Jussie Smollett being involved with the show.
After viewing the sizzle reel that ran during the Empire episode last week, it's clear Lee Daniels and Danny Strong are contenders to come back for at least one more full season of the show. Emanuel wanted Smollett, who was indicted on 16 counts, to face trial, but prosecutors dropped the charges.
"The case is closed", she wrote in a statement shared by TMZ.
