Many people took to Twitter as their only alternative, with some making fun of the inevitable migration.

Facebook is now down with people all around the globe having difficulty accessing the world's largest social network.

It's not clear what caused the issue but a spokesperson for the social networking giant confirmed that the company is aware of the issue and is working to resolve it.

We will update this article, as soon as we receive any updates regarding the issue.

Facebook and Instagram applications are shown on the screen of an iPhone in Zagreb, Croatia, April 9, 2012. However, we were able to post some of our news stories to our Facebook page from our website.

As for Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, the feed is showing up for some, but not others, but everyone is having trouble posting anything.

In the absence of the extremely popular platforms, many flooded Twitter to celebrate, despair or express deep suspicions over the outages.

It is showing outages in the United States, Europe, Japan, Manila, Australia and New Zealand.

A third-party outage map suggested the problem was global - DownDetector monitors posts on other social networks for users mentioning a loss of service elsewhere.

The company says they haven't found any signs that the outage is linked to any DDoS attack that was speculated to happen earlier today.

While Facebook's main service appeared to load, users reported not being able to post.

Or we could just shitpost some more.

WhatsApp also is in the Facebook family of products, but it seems to be working.

However, when switching over to desktop, the issues became even more apparent.
