  • Trump administration under the spotlight once again as Russia investigation expands

"Tomorrow, we will be issuing document requests to over 60 different people and individuals from the White House to the Department of Justice, Donald Trump, Jr., Allen Weisselberg, to begin the investigations to present the case to the American people about obstruction of justice, corruption and abuse of power", Nadler said on "This Week" Sunday.

At the White House, Trump was asked if he would cooperate with Nadler's probe.

The new probes signal that now that Democrats hold a majority in the House, Trump's legal and political peril is nowhere near over, even as the special counsel's Russian Federation investigation winds down.

"The committee is sending requests to 81 people linked to the president and his associates". From the White House, Nadler wants a swath of information tied to Russia demanding the White House provide information about contacts with Comey before he was sacked as Federal Bureau of Investigation director, details about the firing of Jeff Sessions as attorney general and documents about misleading statements given to the press in 2017 when it was first revealed that Trump Jr. met with Russians during the 2016 campaign.

Nadler said Mueller and prosecutors conducting investigators in the Manhattan US Attorney's Office are aware of the committee's action.

The probe comes following mid-term elections in the U.S. that gave Democrats a majority over Trump's Republicans in the House.

He added: "You know, the attractive thing?"

Sen. Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, told CNN that after hearing Cohen's testimony, "We've got to dig deeper" about the extent to which Trump pursued construction of a skyscraper in Moscow during the 2016 campaign even as he told voters he was not involved in any Russian business deals. Several other committees are probing related matters as well, and while many might overlap, the committee chairmen and chairwomen say they are working together on the investigations.

Trump derides 'fake' hearing, but says Cohen truthful on 'no collusion'
In Cohen's August 2017 written testimony to the House and Senate Intelligence Committee , he reportedly told lawmakers Mr. Testifying before the House Oversight Committee, Cohen levelled a broad attack against the president's character.

Democrats secured the majority in the House of Representatives in the 2018 midterm election, and with it, the power to launch investigations.

In a letter to the White House, the committee asks for information surrounding former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey's termination, communications with Justice Department officials, the Trump Tower meeting and multiple other matters. Trump Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said the White House had received the letter and "the counsel's office and relevant White House officials will review it and respond at the appropriate time".

The list includes two of the president's children, Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump, and many of his current and former close advisers, including Steve Bannon.

Mueller is investigating Russian intervention in the 2016 election and whether Trump's campaign conspired with Russia.

Trump, since returning from his collapsed summit in Hanoi last week with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, has resumed his Twitter attacks on Mueller's investigation and the growing number of inquiries in Congress. "We will act quickly to gather this information, assess the evidence, and follow the facts where they lead with full transparency with the American people".

Among the committee's aims is determining whether Trump may have obstructed justice by ousting perceived enemies at the Justice Department, such as former FBI Director James Comey, and abused his presidential power by possibly offering pardons or tampering with witnesses.

"Show me where the president did anything to be impeached", he said.
