The most recent app to join the fold is Facebook Messenger which brings a handsome dark mode for you if you know how to activate it.

After tapping on the "Try It in settings" option, you will be directed to your Messenger profile where you should see the option to turn on Dark Mode just under your name.

Once the emoji has been sent, users should see a shower of crescent moon emojis parade down the interface -similar to the balloon and confetti eruption that appears when leaving a "congrats" comment on a friend's status update.

Probes into the Facebook Messenger app had already revealed that Facebook was working on darker hues, and it even rolled out to small number of users in the latter part of a year ago - but not everyone. It's not clear why it didn't come with an obvious button or toggle in the settings menu that lets users quickly enable it - but it's not to hard to unlock it yourself.

The popup will instruct you to head to settings to enable it.

Users are then prompted to turn the feature on in Settings.

Facebook is now giving users a 10-minute window to delete messages after they've been sent.

Here is how to activate Facebook Messenger's secret dark-mode theme for night viewing.

Now, finally, the feature is rolling out to all iOS and Android Messenger users.

But it does let you erase any messages that may have typos, were sent to the wrong person or that you may regret after-the-fact.
