She also has insisted that Jewish people have a nefarious amount of sway over Congress through the use of money in politics, and has added that Jewish U.S. legislators have a misplaced allegiance to Israel. Unlike many other news organizations, we have not put up a paywall.

This won't be the first time this year that the House will vote on issuing a rebuke on the subject.

House Democrats will offer a resolution Wednesday condemning anti-Semitism in response to Rep. Ilhan Omar's latest remarks on Israel. The freshman congresswoman has spoken out against her Democratic colleagues who have failed to come to her defense even as she faced mounting criticism. They recognize that some of her language has been offensive, but consider it ridiculous-and probably because she is one of the only Muslim women in Congress-to assume that she is an anti-Semite.

In the past she has claimed that Israel's relationship with the USA was "all about the Benjamins", which drew criticism from both Republicans and Democrats.

Still, chastising her indirectly represents an uncomfortable development for Democrats who have been celebrating Omar, a Somali-American immigrant, as a symbol of a historically diverse House freshman class.

"I am told every day that I am anti-American if I am not pro-Israel".

On Wednesday, Omar echoed these concerns and said she "fears" that for her and Michigan Congresswoman and Palestinian-American Rashida Tlaib, "many of our constituents think that everything we say about Israel is anti-Semitic because we are Muslim".

Ms. Lowey was one of two Jewish Democrats - both powerful committee chairs - to call out Ms. Omar at the weekend for her recent comments on pro-Israel political influence and dual loyalties.

Anger over 'forced' video of Indian pilot amid new Kashmir deaths
It is hoped his return could defuse tensions between the two nuclear powers and avoid another war between India and Pakistan . The rivals have fought two of their three wars over Kashmir since their independence from British rule in 1947.

"I have not mischaracterized our relationship with Israel, I have questioned it and that has been clear from my end", she continued.

Omar, who was also recently the target of an Islamaphobic display likening her to a Muslim terrorist, defended herself in a string of tweets on Sunday night.

"Accusing Jews of having allegiance to a foreign government has always been a vile anti-Semitic slur that has been used to harass, marginalize, and persecute the Jewish people for centuries", wrote Greenblatt.

Greenblatt noted that Omar, who is Muslim, had herself recently been the subject of a smear linking her to the 9/11 attacks, but stressed "that offense can not excuse or rationalize anti-Semitism".

Ocasio-Cortez, the New York Democrat who has become a party superstar, counseled a less confrontational approach in dealing with comments like Omar's. By contrast, they argued, President Donald Trump and the Republicans represented racism and bigotry, "pale, male and stale".

The declaration, supported by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, comes after Omar's latest comments on Israel were decried by critics as anti-Semitic. "I hope my colleagues will join me in doing the same".

Then Pelosi announced that the House will be voting on a resolution which, while not mentioning Omar by name, is clearly meant as a condemnation of her.

Omar has taken heavy fire for her remarks over the last week, which ultimately culminated in Monday night's resolution. "Jewish groups have just sent a petition to Speaker Pelosi asking her to remove Omar from Foreign Relations Committee".
