India is planning another military operation in Kashmir this month, Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Sunday as its neighbour prepares for a general election this week.

India's Foreign Ministry spokesman Raveesh Kumar, in a statement posted on Twitter, dismissed as "irresponsible and preposterous" the comments made by Qureshi.

He said India was the biggest threat to peace in the South Asia while Pakistan continued its efforts for peace and resolution of all outstanding issues through dialogue, adding that our desire for peace should not be deemed a weakness.

"Pakistan needs to take credible and irreversible steps against terrorism operating from territories under its control rather than make hysterical statements to obfuscate the core issue that bedevils our region: Cross-border terrorism", India said, adding that Pakistan can not absolve itself of the responsibility of a cross-border terrorist attack on India.

Speaking to reports in Islamabad, Qureshi said the credible information received by Islamabad shows that India is mulling to carry out the attack between 16th and 20th of April.

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has denied his country had any role in the attack.

But India said it stood by its claim and had proof that it had downed the Pakistani jet.

"The goal of such a sinister plan is to put diplomatic pressure on Pakistan", he added.

The foreign minister said India can stage another Pulwama-type incident to justify its misadventure against Pakistan.

Echoing previous Indian statements, he stated that Pakistan needs to take "credible and irreversible steps against terrorism operating from all territories under its control rather than making hysterical statements to obfuscate the core issue that bedevils our region: cross-border terrorism".
