Federal Minister for Information and Broadcast Qamar Zaman Kaira has clarified that trade of Indian goods would not be allowed under Afghan-Pakistan Transit Trade Agreement (APTTA). Speaking at a press conference here Tuesday, the minister said Afghanistan could export its goods to India while Pakistan will trade with Central Asian states via Afghan route.

With the presence of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Kabul and Islamabad finalised on Sunday the new Afghan-Pakistan transit trade pact, allowing Afghan trucks to carry export goods to Wagah border for onward destination to India. He said the accord is yet to be approved by the federal cabinet, adding that the agreement would have salutary effect on the country’s economy than that of Afghanistan. He said that it is a misrepresentation of facts to say that trade of Indian goods will be allowed through the agreement. Only the Afghan trade goods will be allowed from India and these would be taken over at Wagah border if coming via India, he said. Trade of Indian Goods to Afghanistan would not be allowed under the agreement, he pointed out.
