Join John Campea, David Griffin, John Rocha and Kaori Takee as they review season 2, episode 17, entitled ‘Flash Back’. He also gets to slip in his signature, “Run, Barry“.

Looking ahead, our panelists wonder what other implications will arise as a result of Barry messing with the time line. Wells threatens to kill Barry when he reveals he knows his true identity, but Barry bluffs and claims he gave his past self a letter explaining all about Thawne, Reverse-Flash, and how to beat him.
With this, Barry and his team will have to travel back in time on objective this time around. In the final moments of the episode Barry unlocks the information from Wells he obtained in the past and, after picking up the helmet belonging to Jay Garrick, Barry declares that he’s coming for him. It is possible that Barry traveled to Earth-2 in order to defeat the evil speedster, but there is also the chance Zoom opened a breach to Earth-1 in order to kill his nemesis. This lets Barry from the future to jump into the time hole and he goes back to the future. Barry’s time travel this week is reckless but ultimately it may have served it goal if he does indeed gain the ability to travel faster through the help of Wells. It’s going to be one hell of a fight. Barry’s disruption from the past seems to have turned Hartley Rathaway from a villain into a hero and his gauntlets decimate the Time Wraith, which bears an uncanny resemblance to the Dementors from “Harry Potter“. Seeing Tom Cavanagh back in action as Wells-as-Thawne is a delight, particularly in his confrontation here with Barry. Barry needs to know how he manipulated the speed force. The episode also afforded us another chance to see Eddie Thawne who Barry gets on video to send a message to Iris. Trouble quickly ensued when she held everyone at STAR Labs to produce more of the drug and then uses it to wreak havoc all throughout Central City. He was previously introduced on the show as Garrick’s Earth-1 doppelganger, but was deemed by Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) to be harmless and without any speedster powers of his own.
This gives Thawne a clue that something is up with Barry and discovers that he’s working with the future Barry so he knocks him out and handcuffs him. For Barry to go back to that episode and those moments, was an interesting choice, because no one on Team Flash knew about the Reverse Flash yet, Eddie was still alive, and Barry would have to incapacitate Hartley again.
After Barry unlocks the drive, he has a conversation with Wells about Jesse.
Once Barry made it back to the Pied Piper timeline he was certain he could tranquilize past Barry and assume his life, much like he did to Earth-2 Barry in “Welcome to Earth-2″.
